New Journey Program
This long term transitional housing program serves women and their children who are fleeing domestic violence. We provide safe housing in apartments that are fully furnished in confidential locations throughout San Diego County. We have a long term partnership with Soroptomist International of Poway and Ranch Bernardo.  The organization subsidizes and fully furnishes several units provided by Community Housing Works.  Soroptomists also mentor the women during and after they leave the program. We support families recovering from their trauma by providing individual and group counseling, case management, health care, food, and other critical support services. They learn how to identify red flags in toxic relationships, provide emotional support to each other, rebuild self-esteem, and set healthy boundaries leading to creating a non-violent family unit. Women are empowered to make positive lifestyle changes to transition to a self-sufficient healthy, independent life which includes increasing income and moving to permanent housing when they leave the program.

Advocacy for Middle Eastern battered immigrant and refugee women. Programs include domestic violence advocacy, faith-based dialogue, and driver's license instruction. License to Freedom offers counseling services to individuals, couples, families and groups. We offer a unique approach to therapy that is based on client's strengths and pays close attention to the effects of culture. We look at problems in their contexts rather than locating problems within the individual. We are interested in the political, gendered, linguistic, social and economic climates that produce problems and cultivate resiliencies. License to Freedom (L2F) exists primarily to address the needs of domestic violence victims among San Diego County’s large refugee and immigrant community. L2F is the only program offering culturally and linguistically appropriate services in this context to populations in the San Diego area, including Iraqi, Iranian, Burmese, Afghani, Kurdish, Turkish, and African populations. In recent years, L2F has greatly increased its value both to these populations and the broader community by developing a palette of mental health and supportive services provided with sensitivity to the histories, experiences, and challenges of these populations. These services include individual and family therapy, domestic violence group treatment, expressive art therapy and music therapy. Many of those served have experienced tremendous trauma prior to arriving here, including life in war zones, loss of family and friends, and/or torture. L2F provides services that address these realities, including home therapy visits if appropriate.
