East Region Shelter Resources are limited. All individuals who need housing should first call 2-1-1 for a shelter or emergency housing referral. The majority of the San Diego County emergency sheltering options are in the Central/Downtown San Diego area.
From late December to mid-May the East Region Interfaith Shelter Network assists with placement of individuals who are homeless in temporary interfaith shelters. To refer to the Interfaith Shelter Network individuals must call either Crisis House (619-444-1194) or Volunteers of America (619-447-2428). Families, couples and singles are all eligible but must not have any active alcohol/drug or mental health problems.

El Cajon also offers first-time home buyer programs for its residents. Other housing programs are also available from time to time. Information on rental assistance for El Cajon residents is available through the County of San Diego Housing Authority by calling: (858) 694-4801 or by calling 2-1-1.
